Tekes Green Mining annual seminar
Thursday the 28th of November 2013 at 12:30-17:15

Sustainable Mining – Green Tech & Mining SeminarSustainable Mining – Green Tech & Mining Seminar of November 27th will start a two-day green mining seminar session held in Nosturi, Helsinki. The event will address the following green mining related issues in Finland and Europe: green growth within mining sector, European geo-economics and politics, good BSR practices within mining waste management and technology, and green tech with respect to environmental monitoring. The seminar will also provide opportunities for future mining related projects introductions and partner search. Sustainable Mining – Green Tech & Mining Seminar is a national seminar with European elements.
Key note speakers of the event operate right in the heart of the mining related action in Europe: deputy director Johannes Drielsma of Euromines and expert to the Commission, advisor to ERA-MIN Patrice Christmann of BRGM.
Sustainable Mining Seminar is the final seminar of Min-Novation – Mining and Mineral Processing Waste Management Innovation Network Project in Finland. It is also the last event of the national Kestävä kaivostoiminta / Sustainable Mining seminars organised during 2012 – 2013 aiming at rising recognition toward mining waste management and mining industry side streams issues within the sector itself and its relevant interest groups.

Novel methods for online monitoring nickel and other environmentally critical substances - Result seminarNovel methods for online monitoring environmentally critical substances (primarily nickel) in process and waste water streams - NICK-project:
Industrial operators must be aware of the quality of waste water based on EU regulations. The aim of this work was to develop novel and rapid on-line/on-site methods and instruments to monitor mining site discharge waters, especially nickel content. This work was carried out in close co-operation between University of Oulu, Department of Physics at Tampere University of Technology, VTT and MIKES.
The project will be organizing a final seminar 28th of November in Helsinki 9:00 AM and the most essential results of NICK project will be presented.  Inspirational Prof. David C. Cullen will be given keynote lecture. He is a renowned Professor in Bioanalytical Technology at Cranfield Health, Cranfield University, UK

Tekes Green Mining annual seminar
Green Mining annual seminar will be arranged in the afternoon on 28th. In the Green Mining annual seminar the report of Finnish Mining Cluster Survey will be published. Dr Patrice Christman from BRGM will give an outlook of ongoing European mineral sector policy development and a view how the European raw material supply should be guaranteed. Social license to operate and mining impact assessment are increasingly important issues in mining related research. In the seminar five Green Mining projects dealing with these issues arrange a panel discussion moderated by the industry representative.

MIN-NOVATION Baltic meeting in Finland, 04...07 February 2013

04.02.2013 to 07.02.2013 is MIN-NOVATION PROJECT BALTIC NETWORK MEETING IN KAJAANI/VUOKATTI, fINLAND. TALLINN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY IS REPRESENTED BY TUT MINING DEPARTMENT PROFESSOR INGO VALGMA AND TEACHING ASSISTANT VEIKO KARU.

MIN-NOVATION IS A EUROPEAN UNION BALTIC SEA REGION PROJECT “MINING AND MINERAL PROCESSING INNOVATION NETWORK FOR SMALL- AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES IN WASTE TECHNOLOGIES”. PROJECT PARTNERS ARE FROM POLAND, GERMANY, NORWAY, SWEDEN, FINLAND AND ESTONIA.

Photos from meeting:

MIN-NOVATION aims to create a trans-national network with regional networks as building blocks of effective multi-lateral cooperation. The activities carried out on the regional and transnational level will secure better access to knowledge, state-of-the-art technologies and good practice to SMEs (small and medium enterprices) active in the mineral waste management & prevention sector. The project will address all the waste management challenges and opportunities which face the Baltic Sea Region mining industry, which should be understood as extending to all forms of extraction of natural non-renewable resources.

MIN-NOVATION Baltic network (MBN) has set up with the essential role of facilitating diffusion of knowledge and good practices between regions. This will involve providing transnational feedback to regional issues, and elevating cross-regional issues to status of transnational priority areas.

MIN-NOVATION project is part R&D activity in Department of Mining and is related to the study of “Sustainable and environmentally acceptable Oil shale mining”, AR12007; „Backfilling and waste management in Estonian oil shale industry“, GRANT8123 - mi.ttu.ee/ETF8123; Doctoral School of Energy and Geotechnology work group "Sustainable mining" - egdk.ttu.ee
