8th MIN-NOVATION Regional Meeting in Estonia, 17.01.2013


Min-Novation meeting was held with the Doctoral School of Energy and Geotechnology Mining Session on January 17, 2013. The meeting was organized by the Department of Mining, Tallinn University of Technology.

The aim of Doctoral School of Energy and Geotechnology Mining Session is to present new ideas and share achievements in the fields of mining engineering, sustainable mining engineering and mining technologies.
The session was divided into three parts which were separated by coffee breaks and lunch.

First part was tutorials in mining engineering and it was opened with some words from the Chairman Dr. Heidi Soosalu who also gave the first presentation "Seismic Activity on Oil Shale Area". That was followed by presentation "Dectonics" given by Dr. Ülo Sõstra. Next was the first foreign performer MSc. Justyna Adamczyk from AGH University of Science & Technology, Poland with the topic "Reanalysis of the Kettleman Hills landfill slope stability failure". After MSc. Justyna Adamczyk, presentation "BdU Experiences with Developing and Implementing the Usage of Underground Mine Water for Heat Energy Production with All Aspects in the Mansfeld-Region" was given by Dr. Stefan Kreisel from Bildungswerk der Unternehmerverbände Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. (BdU), Germany.

Second session was a special session about sustainable mining engineering with the first presentation "Sustainable Use of Mineral Resources" from Dr. Mall Orru. Second presentation was "Sustainable Mining" by professor Ingo Valgma. Afterwards Martin Saarnak gave a presentation "Process Simulation - Bruno (Metso)" and MSc. Justyna Adamczyk presentation "Mining Waste Management in Poland".

Third and the last session was about mining technologies. Session was opened with a presentation "Mining Waste Reduction Methods" by Dr. Veiko Karu, followed by "Enrichment Unit Alljig" by Tiit Rahe. After that Dr. Jüri-Rivaldo Pastarus gave a presentation "Backfilling Technologies" and Silja Vendla "The Processes of Loam Removal and Soil Compaction for Viimsi Ski Slope". Following, Merle Otsmaa presented "Stability of Pillars in Drowned Mines" and "Indexation of Carbonate Stones Sustainable Assessment" by Julija Šommet was shown as a video presentation. The last presentation of the day was "Mining education and qualification framework in Estonia".
